Make fun of his ridiculous headgear at your own peril, folks.  This guy is a fucking BAMF.

This is Dumont.  He’s Gibbs’s Program, and he runs an I/O Tower, which means he is a big fucking deal.  For us Users, this means he’s basically the guy who decides whether or not you’re going to get to USE the program you’re trying to work with. For Programs, this makes him the go-to guy when you want to talk to God.  Do something to piss him off, and no matter which side of the screen you’re on, your productivity for the day is basically shot.

Running an active I/O Tower under the MCP is a hazardous job, and this cantankerous old survivor is not fool enough to risk himself and his Tower without justification.  But give him a good enough reason, and he’ll literally put everything on the line for you.

When Sark and his cronies finally manage to bust down his door and start torturing him for information, does this BAMF give it up?  Fuck no.  He snarks right back at Sark and doesn’t even scream.

Underneath the crabby, crotchety snarking, though, Dumont’s actually a sweet old grandpa, as best demonstrated by his rather aww-inducing relationship with Yori (which actually makes a lot of sense - she’s a System Utility, he runs the I/O Tower that connects her with the Users who need her to run sims).  

Dumont: respect the hat, bitches, or he’ll turn your terminal into a very expensive brick.
